Dana White said today during the press conference for UFC 229 that PPV buys are trending over 2.5 million. There’s little doubt that Conor McGregor generates the bigger numbers and with the right dance partner like he has in Khabib Nurmagomedov the 2.5M is not out of the realm of possibility. The record is currently held by McGregor in his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 with 1.6M buys.
White also announced that McGregor has signed a new eight-fight deal with the promotion. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to make McGregor the most money in the sport by quite a large margin. The eight fights begin with the Nurmagomedov fight in Las Vegas at UFC 229 on Oct. 6.
“It’s not hard to do a deal with Conor McGregor because we know what he’s worth,” White told ESPN.
“You bet your bollocks it is,” McGregor said, when asked if the logo of his new whiskey, Proper Whiskey would be seen by fans. “On the canvas. On the canvas. Like [Nurmagomedov’s] blood will be on the canvas.”
UFC 229 will mark McGregor’s return to the Octogon after nearly two years. His last fight was a second round TKO against Eddie Alvarez. He was stripped of the lightweight belt because of inaction, and Nurmagomedov took the title over on April 8 with a win over Al Iaquinta.
