The return could be near? First and foremost let’s just say some rumors have been floating around that Gervonta Davis would face Abner Mares, along with Gary Russell Jr. and Leo Santa Cruz on the Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury heavyweight bout. It now seems to be that they could be just rumors.
Now, there’s a possibility that World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight titlist Keith “One Time” Thurman could finally return to the ring. Thurman has been out of the ring for over a year now with an elbow injury. He had been rumored to comeback earlier this year but due to an injury to his hand during training that was postponed.
Thurman was last in the ring in March of last year, where he defeated Danny Garcia to pick up the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title. In the bout Thurman suffered the aforementioned injury to his elbow, that ended up requiring surgery. After not being able to return he willingly vacated the WBC title. A moved that shocked some but the WBC promised to give him a title shot when he’s ready. Could he finally make his return?
Another injured fighter that could appear on the card as well is unified junior middleweight titlist Jarret Hurd. He is expected to be on the undercard as well. Hurd suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery.
Hurd suffered the injury in his last bout when he defeated former titlist Erislandy Lara by split decision. With the victory Hurd picked up the WBA title to go along with his IBF belt. An opponent has yet to be named for Hurd.
FightZoneNews.com will monitor the situation and have an update as soon as one becomes available.
