Pulev declares Fury deal done
Well sounds like the third time could be a charm. As Bulgarian heavyweight championship contender Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev (25-1, 13 KOs) claims a deal for his long-awaited IBF title eliminator is done. Pulev announced that he will face Hughie Fury (21-1, 11 KOs) Saturday October 27th in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Manchester native is a cousin of ex-champ Tyson Fury. A purse bid had been scheduled between them for August 8th and just rescheduled to 8 days later.
Pulev previously went through this process twice before in 2018. The first with WBC Silver title holder Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (24-1, 17 Kos) and a second with American Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (21-0-1, 18 KOs) immediately thereafter. The Cobra once took a strike at world honours back in 2014. When he got stretched out by longtime king Wladimir Klitschko with a nasty left hook to end his night prematurely in the fifth round.
He last showed in April 2017 registering a points win over Kevin Johnson. Fury most recently won the BBBofC Heavyweight title with a fifth round finish of Sam Sexton in May. Pulev previously made a similar statement by proclaiming to be “95% sure” a Whyte match would also land in Bulgaria. That did not ever materialize.
