After waiting the better part of a year, what’s a few more days? Bulgarian heavyweight contender Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev (25-1, 13 KOs) must wait just a bit longer as the purse bid for an IBF heavyweight title eliminator set for August 8th has been rescheduled. And the sanctioning body designated August 16th as the new date. With his current opponent lined up to be Hughie Fury (21-1, 11 KOs) of Manchester, England. Fury a cousin of ex-champion Tyson Fury.
This proposed match now the third one attempted with Pulev ordered by that sanctioning body. First against WBC Silver titlist Dillian Whyte. A second vs. Jarrell Miller. Both predated by purse bids. Both won by Epic Sports. Then subsequently scuttled when Whyte and Miller wouldn’t voyage off to Bulgaria.
Which takes us to the present situation. Pulev also dealing with promotional issues while being estranged from his past promotional company Sauerland Event. Partly why Epic jumped into the fray.
Pulev’s prior appearance in April 2017 featured a points win over Kevin Johnson. Fury last scored a 5th round technical knockout stopping Sam Sexton three months ago. Stay tuned to FightZoneNews.com for any further information. We’ll see, maybe the third time is a charm.
