Freshly crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight titlist Shawn Porter, will soon be hearing from Eddie Hearn. Kenny Porter the trainer and father of Porter claims his son is now a free agent, opening the door for Hearn to test how willing Porter is to be a showcase on DAZN.
Porter who defeated Danny Garcia last weekend by unanimous decision to pick up the WBC welterweight title, now has other options? Hearn has been trying to lure American fighters to the new streaming service DAZN. Hearn is still missing the key marquee American name to go with the new platform. He has flirted with Mikey Garcia and others but has yet to catch his big fish.
Porter is coming off a huge victory and after the bout was confronted by International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight titlist Errol Spence Jr., a bout Porter claimed would be the easiest fight to make in boxing. However, shortly after his father claims that they are now free agents and are exploring every option.
Both Porter and Spence fight under the Premier Boxing Champion (PBC) banner and having the same representatives goes a long way to get the bout done. Should Porter elect to hear Hearn out and eventually sign with Hearn, it might actually hinder plans to get a unification welterweight showdown.
Hearn has an influx of cash to offer anyone willing to come and fight exclusively on DAZN and fight under his Matchroom Boxing USA banner. PBC for their part just signed some huge network deals with Showtime and FOX giving them an annual budget of 100 million dollars. On top of that most of the top welterweights not name Terence Crawford fight under the PBC banner.
Will, Porter remain put and stay with PBC or could he land with Hearn? FightZoneNews.com will monitor the situation and have an update as soon as one becomes available.
