Former European lightweight belt holder Edis “Prince” Tatli (31-2, 10 KOs) has apparently just vacated his 135 lb championship as declared on the EBU website. And, it appears that Newcastle Tyne and Wear U.K. prospect Lewis “Sandman” Ritson (16-0, 10 KOs) could be in line for the vacant title.
The 31-year-old Tatli from Helsinki, Finland, previously by way of Kosovo, first won that vacant secondary strap in April 2015 when he recorded a unanimous decision win over Frenchman Yvan Mendy. He once held it for over two years before a split judgment loss to Francesco Patera of Belgium 15 months ago. Then, reclaimed it with a rematch immediately after.
Ritson last appeared June 16th, scoring a first round stoppage when he pulverized Paul Hyland Jr. Only 24 and looking to be a potential player on the major level. This undefeated BBBofC British Lightweight champion has finished seven straight opponents in a row. He is currently expected to announce his new dance partner this Wednesday for an upcoming October 13th bout at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.
There is no additional information available on record as to what Tatli’s future might hold. Tatli further has claimed a couple of other minor belts in his professional tenure. Among them an EBU-EU (European Union) lightweight title and WBA Inter-continental lightweight title.
The EBU site has the now vacant title match listed as Marvin Petit vs. TBA. But, according to sources Petit will opt out should Ritson get a vacant title shot.
