Undisputed cruiserweight world champion Oleksandr “The Cat” Usyk (15-0, 11 KOs) just recently signed a multi-bout co promotional deal with the U.K. giant Matchroom Sport. Now his top representative K2 Ukraine General Director Alexander Krassyuk is hopeful the new pact will propel him toward a super fight with unified heavyweight champ Anthony “AJ” Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs) next year. As The Cat plans to make a move up north soon.
“Once he starts his journey in the elite division he would be looking for the heart of the king, and Joshua is the king at heavyweight right now,” Krassyuk told Sky Sports.
Usyk last appeared in ring action July 21strecording a clear unanimous decision win over ex-dual titlist Murat Gassiev. That contest held at Olimpiyskiy in Moscow crowned him the inaugural Muhammad Ali Trophy winner as well for the final round of a fantastic World Boxing Super Series tournament event. The 31-year old Olympic Gold Medalist also captured a world championship in the semifinal taking home the WBC belt while defeating Latvian Mairis Briedis by majority decision there.
Joshua most recently scored a distance points win late March then beating Joseph Parker at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. AJ claimed the WBO strap with that victory. He returns on Saturday night September 22nd to face Russian challenger Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium in London.
